Oil Risk Reporting Manager


Overview

Our client, a Global Commodity Trading Company is looking to recruit an experienced Risk Reporting Manager to join their office in London within the Oil Trading division.

The Risk Manager will have a dual role in performing market risk reporting and also leading and developing a team of Risk Analysts. The main role of the risk management team is to analyse, assess, monitor, report and control open risks and exposure of the trading books.

To perform the role effectively, the Risk Manager must be aware of new trades, new structures, the flow in the business, and work towards a goal of no surprises. This position requires a pro-active approach to communication with traders, book leaders and management. The successful candidate must have the ability to use and understand trading concepts and demonstrate familiarity with the oil market to identify the main influences that drive changes in prices and price relationships. They will be required to take a pro-active approach to add value, introduce new ideas and improve business processes whilst supporting more junior members of the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and supporting a team of Risk Managers that are responsible for compiling daily P&L, exposure and risk reports in an accurate, timely and meaningful basis for a set of trading books
  • Maintain detailed position summaries and conduct analysis for respective trading books
  • Effective communication of results with traders and senior management; regularly engage in discussion with traders and management about exposure taken and resultant P&L
  • Proactively identify and communicate potential issues ensuring daily reports represent a prudent and correct reflection of actual positions taken
  • Oversight of MTM principles and maintenance of price databases
  • Supporting proposed new products and initiatives ensuring the team is fully prepared to support execution and trade support when trading commences
  • Ensure that all compliance requirements are being met
  • Guide and support team, leverage on strengths and coaching on weaknesses to achieve high standards
  • Conduct ad-hoc analysis and project work to support the Trading and Management teams as necessary

Qualifications and Experience

  • Graduate with excellent academic record, accounting or reporting background would be an advantage
  • A minimum of 5 year’s experience in a commercial, analytical or risk management role with an energy major or trading house
  • Understanding of energy commodities including physical trading, trading strategies and markets
  • Thorough understanding of derivative instruments and hedging techniques
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Excel and VBA experience
  • ETRM e.g. Tempest experience an advantage

  • Strong leadership and influencing skills, ability to coach and develop junior members of the team
  • Fluent written and spoken English
